India’s elite to grace Ayodhya Ram temple consecration

The forthcoming consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is set to be a grand affair with a guest list that reads like a who’s who of India’s elite. The temple, a towering structure of 161 feet crafted from pink sandstone, is preparing to welcome a select few hundred from a broader list of approximately 8,000 invitees. This exclusive circle includes a mix of the nation’s most influential figures from various spheres, including politics, business, cinema, sports, and the arts.

Among the distinguished guests, industrial magnate Mukesh Ambani will be in attendance with his family, which includes his mother Kokilaben, wife Neeta, sons Akash and Anant, daughter-in-law Shloka, and Radhika Merchant, who is soon to join the family. The presence of such high-profile individuals underscores the event’s significance in the cultural and spiritual landscape of the country.

The film industry’s representation is notably star-studded, with Amitabh Bachchan, a luminary of Bollywood, expected to arrive via a private chartered plane. Joining him will be a cadre of celebrated actors such as Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Anupam Kher, and Chiranjeevi. The creative arts are further represented by the likes of sarod virtuoso Amjad Ali Khan, the esteemed lyricist and poet Manoj Muntashir alongside his wife, the acclaimed writer and lyricist Prasoon Joshi, and directors Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Chandraprakash Dwivedi.

The business world’s participation is equally prominent, with Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group, and his wife Nirja, Ajay Piramal of the Piramal Group, Anand Mahindra of Mahindra and Mahindra, and Ajay Shriram of DCM Shriram among the invitees. The technology and pharmaceutical sectors will be represented by figures such as K Krithivasan, CEO of TCS, K Satish Reddy from Dr Reddy’s Pharmaceuticals, Punit Goenka of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, S N Subrahmanyan, CEO of L&T, along with his wife, Durali Divi of Divis Laboratories, Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy, Naveen Jindal of Jindal Steel & Power, and Naresh Trehan from the Medanta Group.

The list also includes notable personalities from the political arena and public service. Former Lok Sabha speaker Meera Kumar and former Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia have been extended invitations. From the realm of sports, Mitali Raj, captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, will be present, highlighting the event’s wide-reaching appeal across different sectors of Indian society.

India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, former diplomat Amar Sinha, former attorney generals K K Venugopal and Mukul Rohtagi, are also mentioned among the esteemed guests, indicating the event’s national importance.

The logistics of the attendees’ arrival are being meticulously planned. While some guests are opting for the luxury of private jets to arrive on January 22, others are scheduled to take commercial flights, arriving a day in advance. Accommodations have been arranged in Ayodhya and in nearby cities such as Lucknow, ensuring that the guests can attend the consecration rested and ready for the day’s proceedings.
